We are absolutely delighted to share that one of the historic pubs in our local Shepherd Market, Three Jolly Butchers, has undergone a renovation and reopened with its original 1700s name.

History

Shepherd Market was developed by Edward Shepherd in 1735 on the site of the recently abolished annual May Fair. The precinct became home to market stalls, shops, a theatre and taverns. Among its earliest establishments was the Three Jolly Butchers, which opened at 2 Shepherd Market in 1742.

Now

Three Jolly Butchers is a fantastic local asset, offering an expansive menu of drinks and meals. This dog-friendly venue has also launched a programme of events, including quiz nights, weekend entertainment and local history walking tours. Please visit their website for more information.

Comment from the general manager

General manager Tanya Shopova states: “We’re incredibly proud to reopen this fantastic Mayfair pub and bring the Three Jolly Butchers back to its historic roots with its new name. This investment allows us to celebrate the building’s unique heritage while providing a premium, welcoming experience for both locals and visitors.

Whether you’re joining us for a drink, a meal or a special occasion, we’re confident the new-look pub offers something truly special in the heart of Shepherd Market. We can’t wait to welcome both our existing and new customers through the doors to experience the Three Jolly Butchers’ hospitality. Come and visit us today!”

Our review

It was our absolute pleasure to visit Three Jolly Butchers for lunch yesterday. Seated upstairs (a welcome respite from the heatwave), we enjoyed fantastic views of Shepherd Market. We manage a severe food allergy and the staff were extremely helpful, guiding us through the menu, alerting kitchen staff and bringing our food labelled with an allergy flag. There was a relaxed atmosphere and, despite being there during peak hours, were not rushed at all.
