An exciting new fashion photography exhibition is being held at the Saatchi Gallery, which will run until 8 September.

About

Beyond Fashion explores the evolution of fashion photography from its functional beginnings to it becoming an art form in its own right. The exhibition is divided into four sections: Allure, Fantasy, Realism, and Surrealism.

Nathalie Herschdorfer, Exhibition Curator, explains: “At one time, fashion photography was perceived as limited to its commercial use. With the explosion of the internet and social media, the way photography is documented, consumed and shared has undergone a transformation. The emergence of a broader visual language has enabled a blurring of boundaries between editorial work, advertising and artistic expression within fashion photography. Nowadays, it is no longer regarded as a frivolous medium; it is elevated to the status of an art form, capturing the sustained attention of museums and galleries, auction houses and publishers alike. It is the art world’s rising star.”

The exhibition includes moving images and it concludes with an installation entitled Under Your Smell which invites visitors to consider and engage with fashion imagery in an innovative way.

The Saatchi Gallery has also scheduled Saatchi Lates over the summer, which include workshops and access to the exhibition.
