Set in the heart of London’s West End, iconic Carnaby Street is best known for its association with fashion and music. Whilst it’s so lovely to explore at any time of the year, it is a must-see during the winter as it always has the most stunning and original light displays.
Did you know:
- Carnaby Street was established in the late seventeenth century as a residential area of small houses.
- Following the opening of fashion stores such as John Stephen’s His Clothes in the late 50s, it became a popular meeting place for Mods.
- Frequented by The Who, Small Faces and The Rolling Stones in the 1960s, Carnaby Street was the epicentre of Swinging London.
- The street was immortalised by The Kinks with their 1966 hit Dedicated Follower of Fashion with the lyrics “Everywhere the Carnabetian Army marches on, each one a dedicated follower of fashion.”
