Exhibitions to see in London this year

There are some fabulous exhibitions opening in London this year, including:

Yoko Ono: Music of the Mind (15 February – 1 September), Tate Modern
A brilliant opportunity to explore Ono’s works on paper, her performances and music, including pieces from her time in London during the 60s and 70s.

The Biba Story 1964 – 1975 (22 March – 8 September), Fashion & Textile Museum
The Biba Story follows the establishment and development of Biba which started out as a mail-order company and became a major lifestyle boutique which revolutionised how people shopped. All artefacts, including clothing, photographs and film, have been personally selected by Biba’s founder, Barbara Hulanicki.

Judy Chicago: Revelations (22 May – 1 September), Serpentine Galleries
Marking Chicago’s first major solo exhibition in London, Revelations promises a wonderful selection of her thought-provoking feminist artworks.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens (20 June – 8 September), National Portrait Gallery
Six Lives will examine how the wives of Henry VIII, a popular source of inspiration for writers and artists, have been represented both historically and in popular culture.

Naomi (22 June – tba), Victoria & Albert Museum
The first of its kind, Naomi will be following the influence of Naomi Campbell as a supermodel and through her artistic collaborations, as well as exploring her global cultural impact.

Barbie®: The Exhibition (5 July – 23 February 2025), Design Museum
In celebration of 65 years of the brand, this exhibition will explore the legacy of Barbie with a fascinating selection of artefacts from the Barbie archive in California.

Mike Kelley: ‘Ghost and Spirit’ (2 October – 9 March 2025), Tate Modern
This major retrospective of experimental artist Kelley’s work offers a wonderful array of craft sculptures, multi-media installations, videos and collages, reflecting on popular and underground culture from the 70s to the modern day.

The World of Tim Burton (25 October – 21 April 2025), Design Museum
This major retrospective of one of the world’s most creative filmmakers and animators will examine the artwork of Burton (including pieces from his personal archive) and how he has collaborated with designers.
