We are very much looking forward to a unique and ingenious event which is launching at London’s Eltham Palace this Saturday (13 July) and will be on display until 21 July.
About
Fleurs de Villes will exhibit a fantastic array of floral installations around the estate of Eltham Palace which pay homage to the royal and famous guests and the Palace’s owners, the Courtauld family. It will whisk you through time from the Tudor period and illustrate stories of the Palace’s fascinating past.
All of the installations have been created in collaboration with local artists.
Fleur de Villes
Fleurs de Villes (which translates as “flowers of the cities”) works with local florists, growers and suppliers to create beautiful art, custom-designed for its location, whilst promoting the locality’s creative and horticultural talent. It also nurtures partnerships with community groups and sponsors.
Eltham Palace
Eltham Palace boasts a medieval great hall (immortalised by Turner), a 1930s mansion which offers a very fine example of a luxurious Art Deco interior, London’s oldest working bridge over a moat and 19 acres of gardens. The childhood home of King Henry VIII was bought by the Courtaulds in the 1930s; touring the house, you will see fascinating artefacts from the family’s travels and some innovative house adaptations too (look out for the hatch in the flower room).
Eltham Palace is an English Heritage property and tickets can be bought via their website.
Getting there
Eltham Palace can be reached by bus and train from 9 Hertford Street.
