We are excited to share that Saatchi Gallery will be hosting a major exhibition celebrating flowers in art, entitled Flowers – Flora in Contemporary Art & Culture, from 12 February until 5 May.
About
What better place to celebrate floral art than at the Saatchi Gallery in the heart of Chelsea, which is home to Chelsea in Bloom and the Chelsea Flower Show. Opening on 12 February and running until 5 May, the exhibition will take us from the cold last days of winter to the warmth of late spring.
Covering two floors and nine exhibition rooms, and displaying over 500 original works by emerging artists, the show will explore the use and symbolism of flora in the history of the arts and the ongoing influence.
Saatchi Gallery explains: “This dynamic showcase offers a rich variety of artistic approaches, with each piece reflecting the unique ways in which artists are interpreting the natural world. It demonstrates how artists working today continue to use the inspiration of flora in order to capture beauty, energy, light, symbolism and vitality. Some focus on conveying the sheer beauty of flowers and nature, while others use floral imagery to explore ideas about life, mortality, and human nature.”
Highlights of the exhibition include a bespoke 50m2 mural by Sophie Mess which spans the height of the Gallery’s stairway, Rebecca Louise Law’s La Fleur Morte (featuring over 100,000 dried flowers) and Miguel Chevalier’s interactive digital display.
The exhibition is supported by Cazenove Capital and Buccellati, and the gallery is working in partnership with Freddie’s Flowers to celebrate the artistry of floristry and how a floral display can bring style and creativity into any space.
Founder of Freddie’s Flowers, Freddie Garland, comments: “I am unbelievably excited to see the joyful addition we’ll be able to bring to this exhibition. I’ve always seen flowers as an ever-changing piece of art that you can have in your home, and their beauty and uniqueness continue to inspire me daily. This partnership allows us to further explore how you can elevate your daily surroundings with the beauty of fresh flowers.”
Saatchi Gallery has scheduled six Lates which will feature workshops and classes.
