Kew Orchid Festival: Until 6 March 2022

This year, Kew’s annual orchid festival showcases the blooms of Costa Rica. Celebrating the biodiversity of the country through flower arrangements representing monkeys, sea turtles and the native quetzal bird, there is also the opportunity to admire the national flower, the stunningly vibrant Guarianthe Skinneri.

Ambassador of Costa Rica, Rafael Oritz Fabrega, told the Evening Standard: “Today, Costa Rica is one of the only countries in the world to reverse its deforestation, stop biodiversity loss, and increase forest cover to over half its total territory, whilst increasing economic growth. Ultimately, we want to build a better future for the planet – an ethos we are proud to share with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.”

Alberto Trinco (acting supervisor of the Princess of Wales Conservatory at Kew), states: “Every year we enjoy brightening up the gloomy winter months with creative, vibrant and beautiful displays for Orchids.” Well, as if there wasn’t reason enough to visit the wonderful Kew Gardens! We very much look forward to enjoying this fabulous festival as well as admiring the blossoming flora in Kew’s extensive grounds.
