A fabulous Louis Vuitton x Murakami pop-up shop has opened in Soho’s Brewer Street and will be there until 9 February. In addition to new products and archival pieces to purchase, collectables are available to buy via a vending machine. There’s also a ‘care and repair’ station and a café serving monogrammed croissants, blossom biscuits, matcha and juices.
Louis Vuitton’s collaboration with Murakami
The pop-up shop celebrates Louis Vuitton’s long collaboration with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, which began in 2002 when Marc Jacobs invited Murakami to contribute artwork for the fashion house’s handbag designs. Wallpaper explains: “The influence of the partnership was immense: not only did it rack up hundreds of thousands of handbag sales for Louis Vuitton, it would also spawn the phenomenon of the art-fashion collaboration, one which shows no signs of abating today.”
2025 will see further collaborations between the fashion house and artist with collections being released as chapters.
Murakami’s style
Described by Art Life as “one of the most important living contemporary artists today”, Murakami is best known for his post-modern style Superflat. Inspired by two-dimensional manga and anime, the Superflat style exhibits bold outlines and blocks of flat colour.
