A fantastic new exhibition focussing on Surrealist design is now open at the Design Museum. Hailed by The Guardian as making “you see with great clarity how extreme and extraordinary this movement really was, and how hard to recapture.”, it’s a great focus on one of the most quirky and imaginative stylistic genres.
The major show explores a breath-taking 350 objects including Dalí’s notable creations of Mae West’s Lips sofa and the Lobster Telephone, and some lesser-known pieces too. Artists include Dora Maar, Man Ray, Leonora Carrington, Lee Miller, Schiaparelli, Dior and Björk.
There is so much to absorb and consider; it is a captivating introduction to the history of art and design, and for those who would like to expand their knowledge, it delves deep into the evolution of the movement.
The Design Museum is offering a special ticket which grants you entrance to the exhibition and lunch, too (or you can just get a ticket for the exhibition). The museum is just next to Holland Park, and a short walk to Kensington Gardens and Notting Hill, so if you visit on a fine day, it’s the perfect opportunity to explore the area.
