London is just perfect for families with so many family-friendly museums, shows and outdoor spaces offering the opportunity to learn, play and explore together. This October half term, there’s a whole programme of events in London to suit every interest, including:
Dippy Returns to the Natural History Museum (until 2 January 2023)
NHM’s famous Diplodocus dinosaur, Dippy (who was gifted to the organisation in 1905), has returned to the Natural History Museum. Following a five-year tour of the UK, spreading awareness of the decline of biodiversity, he is back to share his memories of nature in the UK with you.
Science Fiction: Voyage to the Edge of Imagination at the Science Museum (6 October 2022 – 4 May 2023)
This is an immersive exhibition which will take you on your own science fiction adventure whilst learning about how scientists have used their findings to create a better understanding of our planet, and how science fiction authors have created their own worlds.
Harvest Celebration and October Plenty at Borough Market (23 October)
Learn about the folklore and traditions of the autumn harvest at the October Plenty performance, listen to fascinating stories at the Story Orchard then perhaps buy some seasonal produce to prepare back at your apartment – perfect! Do check out the Borough Market website for inspiring recipes.
London Symphony Orchestra Family Concert: Through the Looking Glass at the Barbican (23 October)
Introduce your children to classical music with this fabulously fun concert, where you will accompany Alice in Wonderland on her adventures.
Hair-Raising Halloween at Hyde Park (25 – 27 October)
Explore the great outdoors whilst partaking in Halloween-themed activities, including guessing the contents of feely boxes, going on an eerie nature trail, listening to a spooky story and learning about the bats of the Royal Parks.
Workshops at the Cartoon Museum (25 – 28 October)
There’s a brilliant schedule of workshops taking place at the Cartoon Museum, including the chance to make your own mini comic, create your own creatures in Monster Fun, learn to draw superheroes with Spider-Potato, and explore the art of Manga.
Dream House Workshop at Sir John Soane’s Museum (26 October)
Aimed at children 7-10 years, this workshop will explore Soane’s vision for his family home, then children will be given the opportunity to draw, design and build a scale model of their own dream house.
Hocus Pocus in Concert at the Eventim Apollo (26 October)
Enjoy the classic film and Emmy®-winning composer John Debney’s musical score which will be performed live. Perfect for film- and music- lovers alike!
Trick-or-Trapped at the Charles Dickens Museum (26, 27 & 28 October)
Open to anyone 10+, this escape room will take you through a series of challenges in a quest to find Scrooge’s lost heart, before having the opportunity to explore Dicken’s historic house at your own pace.
Stranger Things Experience, Troubadour Brent Cross Studios (various dates)
Travel back to the 1980s and immerse yourself in this interactive adventure in the world of Stranger Things!
