One of London’s most beloved winter attractions, Skate at Somerset House, is back this season with a fantastic selection of DJ line-ups, pop-up restaurants and bars, festive shopping and of course ice skating beside the stunning 40-foot, fairy lit Christmas tree.
About
Running until 12 January, Skate is open each day (apart from 25 December), with bookable sessions from 9am until 10pm.
Skate welcomes visitors of all ages and abilities. It offers lessons at the Skate School run by National Ice Skating Association (NISA) accredited instructors, and there’s a Kids’ Skate Club for children aged 6 – 10 who may be taking their first steps on an ice rink with the support of stabilisers and under the guidance of ice marshals. There are also scheduled Chilled Out sessions which offer reduced capacity, lower-level music and an indoor relaxation zone if breaks from skating are required.
Refreshments are provided by pop-up restaurants and bars including The Chalet and Skate Lounge by Whispering Angel.
For a party atmosphere, be sure to grab evening tickets for Skate Lates with Rock Angel, when there are DJ takeovers at the rink-side decks.
There is also a chance to do some festive shopping from the Shelter Boutique which offers pre-loved clothing, homeware and gifts.
Getting there
Somerset House is a 30-minute walk from 9 Hertford Street. It can also be reached by taking the Piccadilly line from Green Park to Covent Garden.
