Did you know that The Beatles performed their last public concert on 30 January 1969 at 3 Savile Row (then Apple’s headquarters), just a short walk from here? The venue was agreed just a few days beforehand after considering more exotic locations such as The Sahara and a Roman ampitheatre in Tunisia. The 42-minute set was witnessed by members of the public congregating on the streets below and on rooftops. It concluded with Lennon quipping “I’d like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we’ve passed the audition.”.
The event has recently been remembered following the 2022 cinema release of Beatles: Get Back – The Rooftop Concert.
What an amazing and iconic event to take place in our locality!
