The Young V&A to open on 1 July

One of the most hotly anticipated launches in London this summer is the Young V&A, which will open its doors on 1 July.

Set in the Bethnal Green building which was home to the former Museum of Childhood, the museum is organised into 3 galleries – Play, Imagine and Design, showcasing thousands of objects from the V&A’s collection. There will be curated spaces for all age groups to enjoy, a fantastic programme of free events and of course interactivity is very much encouraged!

Tristram Hunt (Director of the V&A), explains: “We are using our stunning collection of art, design and performance to open the nation’s favourite design club for all children and young people. In new galleries and exhibitions, from early years spaces to teenage games design rooms, our plan is to foster Britain’s next generation of artists, thinkers, makers, innovators, and entrepreneurs.”

We particularly love the museum’s ethos; as it is a museum centred on the young, they should be involved in the planning and development. The Young V&A state: “…between now and when we open our doors, there is much activity to deliver, as we strive to fulfil our young co-designers’ brief to create the most ‘joyful museum in the world’.”

Steeped in nostalgia for the older generations and fun discoveries for the younger, it will be the perfect place for whole families to enjoy. Entry will be free of charge, and the museum can be reached from Hertford Street in just under half an hour.
