One of London’s hidden gems is Wilton’s Music Hall. Established in 1850 by John Wilton, its purpose was to provide the local working-class community with a place to enjoy popular entertainment. It is the oldest surviving music hall in the world.
The grade II* listed building is an absolute treat to visit; it’s like stepping back to the Victorian age and is steeped with historic features.
Wilton’s regularly hosts performances as well as history tours. Forthcoming events include Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, Hans Christian Anderson’s La Petite Gerda – Little Gerda and the Queen of the Snow and London in Cinema with live score.
Wilton’s is close to the Tower of London and St Katherine Docks, in the Whitechapel area of the city.
“The most important surviving early music hall to be seen anywhere… It is of outstanding architectural and archaeological significance” – The Theatres Trust
