It’s lovely to see festive decorations appearing around the capital already and can you believe, the first of London’s Christmas lights will be switched on this Monday? Read on to find out where to see London’s best Christmas lights, window displays and light festivals this winter.
Christmas lights
From Monday 2 November you will be able to see Oxford Street’s tribute to the unsung heroes who have given selflessly during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Also on 2 November, Carnaby Street’s lights will be switched on. This year their theme is positivity – reflecting on the kindness, courage and strength of Londoners during this very difficult year.
From Tuesday 10 November, Covent Garden’s spectacular 60ft Christmas tree and adornments throughout the market will be lit up.
Window displays
As you meander around London this winter, be sure to look out for the festive displays at Fortnum & Mason, Harrods, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Liberty and Hamleys. Of course, don’t miss the beautiful exhibits in the windows of the boutiques around Shepherd Market either!
Light festivals
Kew Gardens, Wembley Park and Canary Wharf have confirmed that they will be hosting light festivals this winter.
Christmas at Kew Gardens (18 November – 3 January) is always such a treat. Wander around the grounds after dusk to see spectacular light shows featuring illuminations choreographed to music.
‘United in Light’ is the theme of Wembley Park’s second light festival (26 November – 17 January). Walk along the 100 metre corridor of light, an immersive installation which challenges your perception of distance and space. Clever stuff!
This December and January (1 December – 30 January), experience Colourful Nights at Canary Wharf which features nine breathtaking illuminated installations.
